In a simple sense, ‘nothing’ is the opposite of ‘something’ and therefore, although we can imagine doing something ‘about nothing’ and ‘about nothingness’ and ‘for nothing’, it is more challenging, or perhaps impossible, to do nothing, to institute nothingness. How can this be done? Apparently, the attempt ex nihilo, from nothing, is doomed to failure, and therefore only from something and with something can one have the illusion of producing or instituting nothing.
