“For two thousand years we have been living through the end of times, and perhaps they now have arrived, as they have done so many times before. The end of times that unveiled our time may have arrived during the Greeks still. Perhaps in the myth of Atlantis, but more certainly in the fall of Troy, the city on whose rubble Western literature and theatre were erected. (…) That’s why it can only make sense to return to ‘The Trojan Women’ today, rewriting it in such a way as to merge as harmoniously as possible the gods who know everything but can do nothing against fate, with the news of today that makes us feel equally divine in our knowledge and in our powerlessness. In this writing we will try to bring together the suffering of today’s victims, so that they can also be the eternal suffering of the women of Troy, not in an act of appropriation, but of dialogue, in the hope that the past can shed some light on what we are now and what we risk becoming in the future.”
