Sarar (Healing) is a performance conference about the radical experience of the body in illness and healing. It deals with the process in which the body confronts a new reality, changes its way of being, adjusts to the new being, relearns and is relearned. Sarar is intimate and public, private and collective, it speaks of trauma and the unexpected. In Sarar, the text brings together gesture, video, sound and light to explore the new states and times of the body, the discourses about the sick person and discover invisibilities.
“Sarar (Healing) is about a place of vulnerability where we can all find ourselves one day. The body produces an illness and the illness produces a new body. Healing also produces a body. From body to body, you don’t stop to be ill, the world keeps turning. How do you organise your life when illness comes through your front door?”
Sara Goulart was born in Tavira in 1977. She studied literature, women’s studies and screenwriting. She is a producer, cultural mediator, activist and writer. She curated the exhibitions Viveiro by Júlia Barata and Tochas by Vasco Célio. She produced Partituras para ir and A cada passo uma constelação, by Joana Braga, as part of the Matéria para escavação futura programme. Sarar is his first artistic creation, to which he has invited Ana Rita Teodoro, Fernando Ramalho, Luísa Homem and Zé Rui.
