A solo that refers to a Cultural Archaeology, where memories will be unearthed to enhance the construction of a current narrative based on critical thinking and memory as raw material.
Based on the history of the Carquejeiras of Porto, the creator intends to work from the gesture and performativity of these bodies marked by resilience but also by the wounds of inhuman labour. Preserving, praising and reinterpret the invisibilised memory of these ‘true heroines’ is certainly the central objective.
central objective. The intention is not only to honour these women who have been forgotten over the years, but also to highlight pertinent social issues such as gender inequality, abortion, labour and class exploitation.
The established practice, centred on movement, will not only be a dance but also a form of advocacy. A vehicle to express the struggle and resistance of these women and to elevate their stories to a wider audience, enhancing public perception of these communities.
